14.5 Screenshots and how to take them

Sometimes, an image says more than a thousand words. So we will often ask you to send us a screenshot of the NeoFinder window, or just a portion of it.

Fortunately enough, you don't need a camera for this, as macOS is able to capture your entire screen, or even just parts of it into an image file for you.

Entire screen

Press and hold these three keys together:
Shift, Command, and 3.

If you see a thumbnail in the corner of your screen in newer macOS versions, click it to edit the screenshot. Or you can wait for the screenshot to be saved to your desktop.

Section of a screen

Press and hold these three keys together:
Shift, Command, and 4.

Drag the crosshair to select the area of the screen to capture. To move the selection, press and hold Space bar while dragging. To cancel taking the screenshot, press the Esc key.

To take the screenshot, just release your mouse button.

Just one window

Open the window or menu (which are actually also just small windows in macOS) that you want to capture.

Press and hold these keys together:
Shift, Command, 4, and the large Space bar. The pointer will then change to a camera icon. To cancel taking the screenshot, press the Esc (Escape) key.

Click the window or menu to capture it. To exclude the window's shadow from the screenshot, press and hold the Option key while you click.

Pretty cool, mh?
